Negligence means overlooking important
issues even when being constantly
reminded. Today we will
discuss three issues you should never
neglect in your life:
1- Divine messages: Allah (SWT) (1) sends
us messages all the time and we should be
alert enough to recognize them. You should
constantly stop and think about your life:
why has Allah (SWT) put you in such a place
and what purpose do you serve?
2- Acts of worship for every time: each act
of worship has a time that Allah (SWT)
specified; Allah (SWT) likes to see us pray on
time, be punctual at work, have a special
time to rest, and so on. Make sure you
worship Allah (SWT) by doing what He (SWT)
has specified at that particular time.
3- Death and judgment: do not ever forget
that you will die and stand before Allah
(SWT) to account for your life. Allah (SWT)
says what can be translated as, “[The time
of] their account has approached for the
people, while they are in heedlessness
turning away. No mention comes to them
anew from their Lord except that they listen
to it while they are at play. With their hearts
distracted. And those who do wrong
conceal their private conversation, [saying],
‘Is this [Prophet] except a human being like
you? So would you approach magic while
you are aware [of it]?’” (TMQ(2) 21:1-3).
Negligent people are four types:
1- Those who avoid any advice and turn
away from divine messages and reject
anything to do with religion or religious
people.
2- The arrogant sinner whose bad deeds
far exceed the good ones, but who
nonetheless is *******.
3- The arrogant believer whose good
deeds outweigh the bad ones, but who
takes credit for his/her actions and claims
the right to judge others.
4- The one who is prepared to accept
Allah’s (SWT) divine messages and despite
his/her sins, admits to faults and wishes to
be closer to Allah (SWT).
Reasons for being negligent
• Despite our sins, Allah (SWT) grants us
mercy, forgives us and conceals our
mistakes. Allah (SWT) says what can be
translated as, “O mankind, what has
deceived you concerning your Lord, the
Generous,” (TMQ 82:6).
• Being surrounded by negligent people,
therefore, it is always wise to choose our
companions. Allah (SWT) says what can be
translated as, “And keep yourself patient [by
being] with those who call upon their Lord
in the morning and the evening, seeking His
countenance. And let not your eyes pass
beyond them, desiring adornments of the
worldly life, and do not obey one whose
heart We have made heedless of Our
remembrance and who follows his desire
and whose affair is ever [in] neglect” (TMQ
18:28).
How to avoid negligence
• Remembrance of Allah (SWT): make sure
you read Qur’an daily, even if ten ayahs
(verses ).
• Surround yourself with righteous people.
